This is in no way to talk bad about, or discredit, or slam Lee Tergensen.
My history with Lee Tergensen is a long and troubled one. Just kidding! But I did feel like an idiot when watching his shows and movies. Perhaps best known for his role on Oz as Tobias Beeker, Lee Tergensen is a phenomenal actor. Gifted, talented, and completely believable, it's a shame he's only as famous as that one role, however AWESOME it was!
I first watched his performance in The Forgotten starring Julianne Moore and Dominic West. Though I didn't know it at the time, Lee was the one in the chair who got yanked out of the cabin. I remember I was in my teens by the time I watched it, (I'm a huge scardey cat!) and even then I remember thinking that he was really attractive.
I didn't again notice him until I began to watch Army Wives where he came in close to the fifth season as a love interest for Pamela Moran. I remember watching the first episode he appeared in and knowing I've seen his face or something. I could not put my finger on it, but I just knew he looked familiar but the movie or show never came. So I continuted to watch the amazing show, hoping it would come but it never did.
Then my interests moved on to watching Law and Order: SVU because I always saw my mom watching it, but I never really knew the attraction. Then over my dad's house, he only gets select channels so it was between that and other boring, highly uninteresting shows. For obvious reasons, I chose SVU and after one episode, I was hooked! The actors are amazing, I loved seeing the random stars I could name by face that I've seen in other movies and shows. There was even a cameo from Lee! And of course, Christopher Meloni is big slice of beefcake that was too good to pass up. So from there, I kept hearing things about Oz and how Christopher Meloni was on it with Lee, so then I decided to buckle down and watch it myself, just to see what all the fuss had been about back then.
Boy was I hooked! From the very first episode, they kept it real, they kept it interesting, they kept me hooked. It was honestly one of the best shows I've ever seen and I was literally yelling at people to leave me alone so I could watch them all. I'm a little strapped for cash, but even I went to iTunes and bought some of the episodes because YouTube was acting up. And I'm so glad I did. The characters just seemed so real, it was a real eye opener. But I will have a full Oz review later. Back to Lee.
So he was present in the first episode and at first it didn't register that this was the same man from The Forgotten and from Army Wives. As I watched and watched, and the story lines continued, Lee's hair grew longer and longer, but still it didn't click. BUT I do remember thinking, WTH? Lee Tergensen could be extremely attractive if it weren't for his freakin' hair! It's almost like he doesn't know what to do with it. Sometimes it's cut and looks nice, and other times it's long and wild and extremely gross. I don't know, maybe I'm just not used to him having long hair? Or something. Or maybe his face just isn't framed for long hair? Either freakin way, it was gross as hell and I wanted to yell at the screen.
As if that wasn't bad enough, in Oz, he started to grow out a full mustache and beard! I personally prefer him to have a really clean shaven look, I just don't understand why the producers OK'd that. And who are his friends? Because as friends, they should tell him when he doesn't look good. And the above picture? DOESN'T LOOK GOOD!
While watching his performance and stressing about his hair, because it's so distracting, I have a huge tendency to stop everything and check IMDb for his other works. And lo and behold, it showed that he was on The Forgotten and Army Wives. And then everything finally clicked. Now his face is comepletely recognizable! And still the hair bugs the hell outta me. It seriously looks like he woke up one morning and just decided to grow out his hair, never mind the fact that he just doesn't have the face for it.
Then when I was done with Oz, not knowing what to do with my life, I moved on to Lost, the rest of SVU, and finally on to Desperate Housewives. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and I am totally hooked on that show as well. (I want a husband like Tom, he's so dreamy! He's not afraid to let his woman be the boss, but when push comes to shove, he stands up. But I'll have an in depth Desperate Housewives review later.) And just when I thought I got away from all that hair, Lee Tergensen pops up as Bree's semi love interest/AA sponsor. What were the odds?
And much to my disatisfaction, he had the longest hair ever that I've seen. He looked like a wanna bee surfer and it's terrible because his performance on that show was remarkable. Though it was a small arc, I thoroughly enjoyed his character and would have liked to see more of him, but that stupid hair got in the way! It just kept shaking and flowing and moving with him and I don't know, it just really wasn't him.
Don't take this review the wrong way, I adore Lee Tergensen. I just think that if he kept his hair short, he'd be one of the best underrated actors out in TV Land. But it's the freakin' hair. Every episode he was in during Desperate Housewives made me want to jump through my iPAd and take a machete to it or something. Which is a shame, because he is a truly gifted actor.
Oh well. LOL. Have a beautiful night. Here's some music to brighten up your night!
